TPWODL Upgrades Bhukta Feeder to Boost Safety & Reliability in ForestBelt of Bargarh
Burla/Bargarh | prabaha news : In a major step toward strengthening power reliability and enhancing public safety in the forested regions of Western Odisha, TP Western Odisha Distribution Limited (TPWODL) has successfully completed the Augmentation of the 33kVBhukta Feeder from Murkati to Santhara under Bhukta in Bargarh district. The project, executed at an approximate cost of ₹30 lakhs, has now been fully energized and is operational.
The 33kV Bhukta Feeder, emanating from the 132/33kV Bhatli (Chorgrindola) Grid Substation, is a critical supply line catering to the Dungri, Ambabhona, Bhukta, and Kandpala 33/11kV Primary Sub-Stations.This feeder passes through dense forest zone between Murkati and Katpalia, making it frequent faults from caused by falling tree branches, falling branches, and even illegal hooking associated with poaching activities. These issues have long posed risks to public safety, TPWODL field staff, and overall system reliability.
To eliminate these risks and improve supply reliability, TPWODL upgraded the vulnerable feeder section from bare ACSR conductor to high-grade 232 sq.mm covered conductor. This modern conductor system significantly enhances insulation, reduces faults, and minimizes the risk of electrocution or line snapping.
With the completion of this project, more than 5,000 consumers across Bhukta, Dungri, Ambabhona, and Kandpala now benefit from stable voltage and significantly fewer power interruptions. The Forest Department also stands to gain, as the covered conductor reduces the need for frequent tree cutting, thereby protecting green cover and wildlife habitats along the corridor.
Local communities and farmers will experience improved service continuity, while TPWODL will achieve reduced technical losses, improved reliability performance, and safer field operations.
The augmentation of the 33kV Bhukta Feeder marks an important step toward developing a safer, eco-friendly, and resilient power network in Western Odisha. By cutting down recurring faults, preventing wildlife hazards, and supporting environmental conservation, the initiative strengthens TPWODL’s commitment to sustainable power distribution.
