KIMS Observes World Heart Day with Walkathon, Mass CPR Training
Bhubaneswar, Sept 29: Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) observed World Heart Day on Monday with a series of awareness initiatives to promote cardiovascular health and equip the community with life-saving skills.
As part of the observance, KIMS organised a walkathon that saw enthusiastic participation from doctors in the Department of Cardiology, KIMS staff, students, and senior officials. The walkathon sought to spread awareness about the importance of heart health and encourage people to adopt healthier lifestyles.
The highlight of the observance was a mass CPR training programme organised for students of Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS). More than 500 students participated in the programme, which was aimed at creating awareness about cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and its importance as an emergency life-saving procedure.
The training familiarised students with the basic steps of CPR, which can be performed when a person suffers a cardiac arrest and is unresponsive or not breathing normally. The programme sought to create a pool of trained first responders capable of providing immediate assistance during a cardiac emergency before professional medical help arrives.
The programme was attended by Advisor to the Founder, KIMS, Dr R N Samanta; Head of the Department of Cardiology, Dr Subasish Mishra; Prof. Dr Panchanan Sahoo; Dr Ashok Kumar Badamali of the Department of Anaesthesia, among others.
