Tata Steel Foundation launches ‘SaRe Gaayein’ in association Shubhendra and Saskia Rao Foundation & ASPIRE
Kalinganagar, January 23, 2023: With an objective to introduce music-based learning to students, Tata Steel Foundation (TSF) in collaboration with Shubhendra and Saskia Rao Foundation & ASPIRE launched “SaRe Gaayein”, a unique, path-breaking education programme. To start with, the initiative will cover 25 Residential Bridge Courses (RBCs) run by TSF and reach over 2700 children in six tribal blocks of Odisha.
World renowned musicians Pandit Shubhendra Rao and Maestro Saskia Rao- de Haas launched the “SaRe Gaayein” project with a concert-cum-lecture demonstration on Jan 23, 2023, at Loyola School, Kalinganagar. The spectacular performance was attended by over 500 children and teachers along with community members. Their performance was unique as they invited Maandar & Nagaada players of the Ho Community on the stage to join them. After the performance, Shubhendra Rao and Saskia Rao-de Haas interacted with the children and sang together with them. The entire audience was mesmerised with this very unique and historic event in Kalinganagar.
Er Pritiranjan Gharai, Honb’le Minister of Rural Development, Skill Development & Technical Education graced the occasion as Chief Guest.
It may be noted here that launched in 2014, Shubhendra and Saskia Rao Foundation’s mission is to empower and uplift children through innovative and new methodologies of teaching classical music and connecting them to their rich cultural heritage.
A day prior, Pandit Shubhendra Rao and Maestro Saskia Rao- de Haas visited Mirigichara village to learn about music and dance of local tribal community. During their visit, the Ho community also performed the Maghe Parv dance for them.
The Shubhendra and Saskia Rao Foundation team is currently conducting a 2-day training program for teachers, after which a 3-month pilot will be rolled out in 25 RBCs.
