Bhubaneswar: BMC Permission Must To Keep Pets At Home
Bhubaneswar: On account of a recent pet dog biting case here in the city, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to come up with a set of rules on keeping pet animals in human society.
There will be certain pet rules that both animal lovers and residents must follow. The BMC will issue the new guidelines soon for keeping pet animals including dogs and cattle, informed the BMC Commissioner Vijay Amruta Kulange today.
The BMC will check whether the house has a healthy environment for keeping pets. A certificate issued by a concerned vet on nature of the pet may be required. The new guidelines in this regard have been drafted and will be issued by next week.
“The pet owners should monitor whether the environment is favourable for keeping pets, or their pets are causing threat in their neighbourhood. Keeping all these in mind and reviewing pet guidelines introduced in other cities, we will come up with new guidelines to ensure the community living is not hampered in any way,” Kulange told reporters.
“The pet owners need to furnish a declaration before the BMC for keeping pets of any breed at their respective homes. They have to certify from their side that they are taking proper care of their dogs. The BMC will verify the documents furnished by the pet owners. Priority will be given on the documents provided by the pet owners against those we receive repeated complaints from a particular locality,” he further said.
Action will be taken against pet owners for violating the new guidelines, he warned.
