PM Surya Ghar Yojana brings relief to consumers from electricity bill worries

Balasore, prabaha news : The Government’s PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana is providing much-needed relief to consumers from escalating electricity bill worries, particularly with the approaching summer season. By installing solar panels on their rooftops, consumers have significantly reduced their electricity bills under this scheme.

The Utility Led Aggregation (ULA) model of PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana has gained significant traction, with TP Northern Odisha Distribution Limited (TPNODL) accelerating rooftop solar panel installations in the region. The initiative aims to provide clean, reliable, and affordable electricity to domestic consumers with 1-kilowatt connections, ensuring high-quality and safe solar panels.

As a result, 4,651 consumers in Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Bhadrak, Keonjhar, and Jajpur districts have installed rooftop solar panels, with 461 households receiving zero-unit monthly electricity bills. Majority of the remaining consumers have witnessed substantial bill reductions as well.

Under the PM Surya Ghar scheme, consumers with solar panels up to 3 kilowatts have achieved substantial bill reductions. In five TPNODL districts, 6849 consumers have installed solar panels, with 2812 receiving zero-unit monthly bills. The majority of remaining consumers have also reported a considerable decrease in their electricity bills.

Mr. Gajanan Kale, Chief – Odisha Distribution Business and CEO, TPNODL, stated that TPNODL has consistently worked towards providing reliable and quality electricity services to consumers in the region. Under the Government’s PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana and ULA model, consumers can now access clean, reliable, and affordable electricity. TPNODL is very much committed and proactive in its efforts in this direction, he added.

Consumers who have availed the benefits of PM Surya Ghar Yojana have expressed their satisfaction with the scheme. Prasanna Kumar Sahu of Mayurbhanj’s Betanati area, who installed a 1-kilowatt solar panel, said that his billing unit for electricity has been zero for the past two months. This scheme has been very helpful for him and his family, he mentioned.

Sabita Paley of Keonjhar’s Ghatgaon area, who installed a 3-kilowatt solar system, highlighted that her electricity bill has reduced from Rs 1,200-1,500 per month to Rs 150-200.
