Bhubaneswar, April 08, 2026: TP Central Odisha Distribution Limited (TPCODL), a joint venture of Tata Power and the Government of Odisha, has partnered with PeLocal Fintech Private Limited to introduce a first-of-its-kind WhatsApp-based electricity bill payment solution in the state. This innovative initiative marks a significant step in TPCODL’s ongoing digital transformation journey, aimed at enhancing customer convenience and promoting cashless transactions.

With this collaboration, consumers can now access their electricity bills and make payments directly through WhatsApp, eliminating the need to visit payment centers or switch between multiple platforms. The solution offers a seamless, secure and user-friendly interface, enabling customers to view bill details, receive payment reminders and complete transactions instantly using multiple payment options.

TPCODL, serving a vast consumer base, has been consistently promoting digital adoption across its operational areas. In March 2026, the utility achieved a major milestone by recording its highest-ever digital transactions since takeover, reflecting growing consumer trust in digital platforms. The integration with PeLocal is expected to further accelerate this momentum, particularly in semi-urban and rural areas.

The WhatsApp solution will also enable personalized customer engagement through intelligent payment reminders based on consumption and payment behaviour. Additionally, consumers will benefit from features such as instant payment confirmations, access to bill history and insights into savings through timely digital payments.

Speaking on the initiative, Arvind Singh CEO, TPCODL said, “This collaboration with PeLocal is a step forward in our commitment to making electricity services more accessible, convenient and digitally inclusive. By leveraging WhatsApp, a widely used platform, we aim to bridge the digital gap and empower our consumers with easy payment solutions.”

Vivekanand Tripathi CEO, Pelocal said, “Partnering with TPCODL marks a significant milestone in our mission to simplify last-mile payments and drive digital inclusion at scale. With WhatsApp as a powerful and familiar interface, we are enabling millions of consumers to seamlessly access and pay their electricity bills with ease, security, and convenience.”

As part of its future roadmap, TPCODL plans to further enhance digital touchpoints, including integration of QR codes, chatbot services and customized communication to drive higher digital adoption. The utility has set an ambitious vision to achieve 2 million digital transactions by March 2027, positioning itself as a benchmark in the power distribution sector. This initiative reinforces TPCODL’s focus on innovation, customer-centricity and operational excellence while contributing to the broader vision of a digitally empowered energy ecosystem in Odisha.
