Vedanta Aluminium undertakes summer relief initiatives across rural Odisha

Bhubaneswar,prabaha news : Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest producer of aluminium, has undertaken extensive initiatives to alleviate heat stress and provide reliable drinking water access to communities living in the vicinity of its operations in Odisha. In addition, it also undertook several measures for the wellbeing of employees working within its manufacturing plants and mining operations. Together, they represent the company’s continuous focus on ensuring that the fundamental needs of community members are met.

At Jharsuguda, Vedanta Aluminium rolled out a comprehensive heat mitigation plan across the region in collaboration with the district administration. As part of this initiative, drinking water is being supplied regularly via water tankers to residents across 17 municipal wards of Jharsuguda. Additionally, 11 nearby villages, including Katikela, Dalki, Purna, and Brundamal, are also being supported to ensure clean drinking water reaches even the remotest areas.

To further enhance community access, multiple public drinking water kiosks have been installed under the aegis of the company’s ‘Jal Seva Shibir’ initiative at high-footfall locations across Jharsuguda, and within Vedanta’s premises. These kiosks provide clean and chilled drinking water to members of the public throughout the day.Moreover, two rest sheds have been setup at Badmal and Panchpada, with coolers, drinking water, and comfortable seating, making them especially useful for daily commuters and the elderly.

Furthermore, the company’s Mines team has launched an extensive water relief initiative across Sundargarh and Jharsuguda districts. Through its community-focused programme, the company is ensuring access to clean and safe drinking water for over 10,000 people daily in the villages of Kuraloi, Piplimal, Luabahal, Garjanjore, Chakra, and Bileimunda through dedicated water tankers. To address the needs of the residents, Vedanta Aluminium has recently installed 11 solar-powered borewells, 50 bio-toilets and 20 water purifiers in 12 villages across Hemgir and Kuraloi regions.

Speaking about the initiative, Sunil Gupta, COO – Vedanta Aluminium said, “Extreme heat can result in severe bodily discomfort. Our initiatives, undertaken in collaboration with district authorities, are aimed at extending all possible support to ensure community well-being during the summer periods.
