Tata Steel Mining felicitated for its efforts towards conservation of biodiversity

Bhubaneswar, October 07, 2022: Tata Steel Mining Limited (TSML) has been felicitated by ‘Grow with Nature and Nature and Wildlife Conservation Society of Odisha’ (NWCSO) for its contribution towards the conservation of biodiversity and active participation in creating environmental awareness and conservation through community participation.
The award was presented in a workshop on “Responsible Stakeholder Participation for Wildlife Conservation” organised by NWCSO in collaboration with the ‘Regional Museum of Natural History on the occasion of 68th Wildlife Week in Bhubaneswar. Devraj Tiwari, Assistant General Manager, Sustainability TSML, received the award on behalf of the company. The award was presented by Dr. Arun Kumar Mishra, Regional Chief Controller of Forests (RCCF), Rourkela, and Saroj Kumar Patnaik, President, NWCSO. Ms. Gayatri Devi, Chairperson, NWCSO was also present at the workshop.
Speaking on the recognition, Pankaj Satija, Managing Director, Tata Steel Mining Limited said, “We have a full-fledged Biodiversity Management Plan in place for all our mining locations and we are working on the projects recommended in these plans to improve biodiversity. In line with our group philosophy, our operation is centered on sustainability and particularly creating and maintaining excellence in biodiversity.”
In a panel discussion, various projects undertaken by TSML for Biodiversity conservation like Prajatiya Khadyotsav, Jaibakala Vividhta, Green Therapy, etc. were presented as best practices. The workshop also deliberated on the various other interventions that can be taken for the conservation and enhancement of biodiversity in the operating ecosystem of businesses.
TSML not only strives to set benchmarks in the Mining and Ferro Alloys industry but also consciously invests in biodiversity conservation of flora and fauna. The company has rolled out Biodiversity Management Plans (BMPs) with the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), across all its mines. TSML is also tirelessly working on aligning its actions with the National Biodiversity Targets, Aichi Biodiversity Targets and, Sustainable Development Goals in order to integrate biodiversity into the business ecosystem and build a better tomorrow for future generations.
