Vedanta Aluminium Commences Pride Month 2026 with Inclusive Milestones at Jharsuguda
Jharsuguda, Odisha, 4thJune 2026: Commencing its observance of Pride Month, Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest aluminium producer, is reinforcing its commitment to building a diverse and inclusive workplace at its Jharsuguda plant operations. Aligned with the Pride Month 2026 theme, ‘For All of Us’, which highlights the importance of creating spaces where individuals can live and work with dignity and authenticity, the company is strengtheningteamdiversity through inclusive hiring, equitable practices and a culture of respect across its operations.
At its mega aluminium plant inJharsuguda, this commitment is reflected in the diverse composition of its teams. Women constitute 21% of the plant’semployees,in critical functions such as potline operations, maintenance, engineering and power operations and in leadership roles. The company has alsoonboarded 19 transgender employees in various roles including security, storekeeping, housekeepingand maintenance functions.These milestones mark a steady shift towards building a more representative and inclusive workforce in a sector traditionally perceived as male dominated.
Vedanta Aluminium has put in place progressive policies and systems to support an enhanced quality of life for transgender employees and enable equitable opportunities for progress. These include a comprehensive gender affirmation policy that supports employees through their transition journey, with financial assistance of up to ₹2 lakhprovided for gender reassignment procedures along with 30days ofpaid leave andaccess to medical guidance.Recognizingthe challenges faced by LGBTQIA+ individuals in securing quality housing, the company has alsoensuredsuitableaccommodation facilities for them.

Vedanta Aluminium has been at the forefront of advancing women’s participation in core manufacturing roles. It is home to India’s first all-women potline team, an all-women locomotive team and more recently, Odisha’s first all-women power operations team managing a 135 MW unit. In addition, initiatives such as Agnivahini, an all-women fire emergency response team with over 100 trained members, further demonstrate how women are taking on critical operational responsibilities across the plant.
Its commitment to inclusion also extends beyond operations into community development, with initiatives such as Project Nand Ghar, which has established over 630modern anganwadis in Odisha to promote women and child development, and Subhalaxmi Cooperative, supporting 5,000+ womenfrom Jharsugudawith livelihood opportunities, contributing to wider social empowerment.
