Coal miners play a pivotal role in providing economic security to the country: Shri OP Singh, CMD

Sambalpur, August 16, 2022: 76th Independence Day was celebrated with patriotic fervor at Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) with Shri O.P. Singh, Chairman-cum-Managing Director hoisting the Tricolour at Aanad Vihar Grounds here on Monday.

The CMD inspected the ceremonial parade and took salute of marching contingents of smartly-dressed MCL security personnel.

Prominent among others present on the occasion were Shri Keshav Rao, Director (Personnel), Shri PK Patel, CVO, Shri Jugal Kumar Borah, Director (Tech/P&P), Shri AK Behura, Director (Finance), Smt. Padmaja Singh, President, Jagriti Mahila Mandal along with vice-presidents Smt. Sarita Patel and Smt. Rashmi Behura.

Greeting the honorable people’s representatives from coalfield areas, trade union representatives, officers, staff of MCL and peripheral people, the CMD informed that MCL had been successful in increasing the coal production and despatch during current financial year.

“Coal miners play a pivotal role in providing economic security to the county,” Shri Singh said, congratulating the Team MCL for excellence in performance and playing a significant role in averting the crisis-like situation due to the increased power demand.

Continuing with its record-breaking spree, Shri Singh said, “MCL’s year-on-year growth in coal production and despatch stands at 30% and 21% respectively and I am confident that the company would continue to perform better and achieve new milestones during current financial year.”

Earlier, Shri  Keshav Rao, Director(Personnel) hoisted the national flag at the headquarters’ lawns.

On the occasion of independence day, the CMD also presented Special Achievement Awards to  seven employees posted at MCL headquarters, which included Shri KB Venu, Chief Manager (Personnel), L&R Dept, Shri SK MIshra, Chief Manager (Mining), Contract Management Cell, Shri Anil Kumar, Manager (Systems), Ms CB Smita, Manager (MM), e-procurement Cell, Dr (Ms) Neelima N, Senior Medical Officer,  Shri  N Sukesh, Dy Mgr (Mining), Innovation Cell, and Shri  BP Harijan, Assistant Security Sub-Inspector, Security Department.

Similar Flag hoisting ceremonies were also held at all the Areas and Projects of MCL spread over Sundergarh, Jharsuguda and Angul districts of Odisha.

Meanwhile, the Tricolour were also hoisted by the employees their residential quarters as a part of Har Ghar Tiranga Abhiyan, to celebrate Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. MCL had distributed about 50,000 national flags under Har Ghar Tiranga Abhiyan.
