Lawyer On Morning Walk Dies In Road Mishap In Sambalpur; Truck Set On Fire

Sambalpur: A lawyer on a morning walk died after a speeding truck hit him at Sarla Chhak on NH-53 in Sambalpur district this morning.

The deceased person has been identified as Umesh Chandra Swain, a senior advocate in Sambalpur.

According to reports, Swain was on a morning walk at Sarla Chhak near St. Joseph’s School at around 6.45 am when and speeding truck laden with grapes coming from Ainthapali area hit him.

The irate locals detained the truck and set the vehicle on fire. They also blocked the national highway hitting the vehicular traffic by burning tyres.

Expressing outrage over the incident, one of the locals said, “Umesh Swain was a senior advocate. A speeding truck hit him during morning walk killing him on the spot. Such incident will take place everyday if the local administration and NHAI will not take appropriate measures to check speed of heavy vehicles on the NH. Two schools are located near the major road, but there is no speed breaker here.”

“We will not free the NH until our demand for installation of rumblers is not met,” he added
