Odisha Develops E-Detection Portal To Tighten Noose On Vehicles Sans Valid Documents
Cuttack: The Transport department of Odisha has developed an e-detection portal to detect vehicles plying on national highways (NHs) and state highways without valid documents, said the State Transport Authority (STA) today.
Vehicles require valid documents including registration certificate, fitness certificate, insurance and pollution under control certificate (PUCC) to ply on public roads. This apart, the drivers or riders must have valid driving licences. However, many vehicles are plying on the NHs in Odisha without valid documents, said the STA after analyzing the data from various toll gates.
“The e-detection portal will keep a tab on vehicles plying on roads without valid documents in a seamless manner. The objective of the portal is to collect the data from various toll gates on the national highways in Odisha. In the first phase, the toll gates of National Highway Authority (NHAI) have been integrated with the portal. Data will be collected from mining and industrial areas in the next phase. Challans will be generated automatically for the vehicles plying without valid documents after analysis of the data with details from Vahan portal,” said Joint Transport Commissioner (Technical) Dipti Ranjan Patra.
The data will be collected through FASTag and images captured when a vehicle passes through a toll gate. The vehicle owner or the victim will not get any insurance claim for accident if the vehicle does not have valid documents, Patra added.
The STA urged the vehicle owners to keep up-to-date documents with them. It is important for all motor vehicle owners to follow the rules laid in the Motor Vehicle Act, 1988. Vehicle owners should also ensure that they have all the necessary documents to avoid penalties, said the STA.
